Record Label


	SPOOK RECORDS Is an independent record label based in the Spook Music Studios in Lossiemouth. Our objective is to release records from locally based bands and artists at reasonable cost. As a small record label, we lack the financial support to offer large advances, which in any case are recoupable from record sales. Instead, we have tailored a record deal that we hope will meet the needs of our acts. Instead of saddling our bands with a huge debt that they will spend years paying off, we offer our own studio at the very low price of £50 per day. To make this even more attractive, we will throw in all mixing and mastering time free. This is usually charged at a flat rate of £20 per hour. Basically, the act simply pays for the tracking time at a discounted rate and the record label pays for the rest. We must charge this nominal fee to keep the studio open and running. We also offer acts the chance to become involved in the mixing process so they can be sure the final product sounds the way they would like. Once the record has been mastered and is ready for production, there are two ways to proceed: The act can pay for their duplication/replication at a discounted rate. This would be £2 per standard CD album for runs up to 500. This price is then all they pay. All profits from their CD sales are then theirs to keep. Alternatively, the record company will pay for the CDs and the profits from sales will be split 50/50 between the band and the record company. We believe that this method of working benefits both the record label and the act. We also have access to session musicians for solo acts and for singer/songwriters. We can produce full tracks from a chord and lyrics sheet to give a full band backing track for solo acts. An example of this is Reanna Jiggins debut album, Another Day At The Monkey Parade, which was produced from scratch by our in house producer, Stu Richardson.
